Richard Serra in Greenpoint
I walked across the backside of Greenpoint to the subway this morning. I look under a new roll-up door and guess what?A Richard Serra slab of heavy metal is sitting there, with 5 workers taking a breather to the side. I asked the foreman if it was OK to take a picture, and did. He said the object was from Gagosian on 24th, and was unsold. I offered to haul it away for free, but no luck. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that Greenpoint is back room to Chelsea's mega-spaces.
And if that wasn't exciting enough for a quiet morning, a little later, in front of my favorite water treatment plant, I witnessed a tanker truck collision from a block away (on the far side of the picture, close enough to see the gash in the tanker and the Flammable sign, so I gave it a good 100 seconds before passing by). A car was wrecked, but the passengers climbed out, and did not jump in the first ambulance that showed up. I could smell gas, but then it always smells like gas around there. The business the truck slammed into? A metal recycler, with huge piles of twisted scrap metal...

I saw it too. I was amazed that it was just there on my way to the drugstore. I walked right up to it.
Now I feel like I don't have to spend 20 bucks to go to MOMA when there's a Serra in my own backyard.slqdr
Thanks for corroborating, Frank. Now people won't think I'm seeing UFOs...
