Best Building Will Ever Look 4
The name Igor popped into my head when I first saw this building months ago (right; at N 8th and Roebling in Williamsburg). It was so ugly I felt sorry for it. Not only does it have a lumpy, stegosaurus-like roof line, but it's been painted a nasty plastic turquoise from Day One.
Being a positive person, its ugliness just made me look harder for something redeeming, like the way the scaffolding punctures the plastic and the plastic flaps in the wind (below), and how the building looks pretty good when other stuff is in the way (left).![]() | ![]() |
Turns out that it is (surprise) another Karl Fischer creation.
If you look closely at the way Karl's elves have rendered the building (right; more here), you'll notice the delicate handling of street life, and why Williamsburg is happy to shed its bohemian adolescence and become Karl Fischer City. There are not just high-class sports cars, SUVs and guys in suits, but a blood red Hummer -- no doubt cruising low & slow, with its stereo pumping Celine Dion's hip hop album, in a circuit past the high school a block away.
